Garden & Hand Tool Buying Guides

RESOURCES FOR BRANDS, IMPORTERS & DISTRIBUTORS

Build a clearer tool specification before requesting a quote.

Similar product names can cover different head patterns, sizes and handle configurations. These checklists help your purchasing team compare like-for-like products and send a brief that can be priced accurately.

1. Compare long-handled tools by application and dimensions

Start with the task and the product pattern used in your market. A shovel, spade, fork, rake and post-hole tool should not be treated as interchangeable merely because they share a long handle.

  • Record the head shape and dimensions, overall length and handle length separately.
  • For a fork or rake, specify the number, spacing and shape of the tines.
  • Identify the handle grip, fixing method and required finish.
  • State the unit of measurement and whether a dimension is nominal or a required tolerance.
  • Use a model number or a marked drawing when comparing quotations.

2. Specify the complete handle construction

Wood, fibreglass and composite handle descriptions are only a starting point. Confirm the construction offered for each model rather than assuming that every tool uses the same material or reinforcement.

  • Check the handle material, length, cross-section, grip and connection to the head.
  • Ask what material or process documentation applies to the chosen configuration.
  • Agree the relevant strength, fixing and finish checks before approving a sample.
  • Confirm compatibility before ordering a replacement handle.

A material name alone does not establish electrical insulation, a load rating or compliance with a particular standard. Any such requirement needs a specific product design and appropriate evidence.

3. Prepare an OEM and packaging brief

A useful RFQ combines the product specification with the commercial details. For a private-label range, include the following for each model:

  • RZT reference, quantity and destination market.
  • Required material, size, finish and approved sample requirements.
  • Logo placement, artwork files, colours and labelling language.
  • Retail packaging, carton quantity, barcode and shipping-mark requirements.
  • Requested delivery terms, destination and target timing.
  • Required inspection criteria, test reports or other documentation.

MOQ, lead time and available customisation depend on the model and order. Confirm them in the quotation. For an Australian or New Zealand range, provide the local product terminology and labelling requirements used by your customers.

Use the catalogue as your starting point

Our product pages list available model references and the specifications currently recorded for each group. Where a detail is missing, ask for confirmation before comparing prices or approving production.
